Singapore, 24 February 2005 - Starlite Printers (Far East) Pte Ltd achieved the prestigious ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification. SPFE had also taken the opportunity to integrate the ISO 9000 quality management system with and the 14001 environment management systems (QEMS).

SPFE officially kicked off the ISO 14001 (EMS) implementation during the annual Quality Day event on 24th July 2004. The Steering committee, the working committee and the Environment Management Representative (EMR) were appointed on that day. Novo Environmental Technology Service was enlisted to provide the company wide environmental training.

Throughout the entire implementation journey, the company faced a lot of obstacles but was able to overcome it owing to the following reasons:

1. Starlite Corporate Culture
One of Starlite?s core values is "Care" which encourages the company to extend its care to the environment which is crucial to the sustainable development of the future generation.

2. Leadership
The General Manger, Ms Ler, was very supportive and provided all the resources necessary for the implementation. At the same time, all department heads were also supportive of their respective staffs who were involved in the EMS.

3. Commitment
Each and everyone of the employees from the General manager to the operators understood the importance of EMS and was committed to obtaining the ISO 14001 EMS certification.

4. Cross Functional Committees
Other than the ISO 14001 EMS working committee, the QSC cross-functional committee had also systematically assisted in implementing the EMS.

QAT / Measurement committee ? form teams to work on the environmental projects

Training / Employee Participation committee? organize relevant training programmes and activities for employees.

5S & Awareness ? created awareness of ISO 14001 company wide. Customer Focus committee ? communicated to customers on the implementation of ISO 14001.

Achieving the ISO 14001 EMS certification within 7 month is a track record for SPFE. The next challenge for the company would be to maintain the EMS, bearing in mind that continual improvement is the key toward a greater height.
